Iceland

This is the story of an island, country, and volcano… Iceland!

The landscape is vast, desolate and stunning.

Between the water falls, geysers, volcanoes, Icelandic Sagas and incredible thermal pools… this is an amazing place on Earth…And sky- the Aurora Borealis completes the outer dimension of this ethereal locale.

Here’s how you go in search of the Northern Lights! Patience!!! When searching for the Aurora… 1) Must have clear skies! Maybe even just a slight opening through the cloud cover. 2) Solar activity– must have very active solar flares. These expel at the poles which mix with Earth’s atmospheric gases to give off the light effects. 3) Location, location , location. The NL (Northern Lights) must be at the North or (South) most point of the globe. At the poles. Although some can be seen in some higher latitudes, the more North ( 66• Latitude) to be exact make for the perfect location. But… 4) Must also be at the right time of the year. There is a “season” where the lights are more prevalent and conversely, other times are a big DUD! One other aspect, the camera or smart phone has to have the capability to capture the light. To the naked -eye there might appear a greyish cloud, but with proper exposure and aperture… voilà- a green, dancing light may be visible! “Go gently into that good ‘light'”!

This is a relatively plain and understated church, but what is spectacular , is its organ. It is the “largest organ found in Iceland. It has 02 ranks, 72 stops and 5275 pipes and is 15 meters (49 ft) high. The organ weighs over 25 tons. The organ was inaugurated in 1992 and was constructed by German organ builder Johannes Klais from Bonn.”
